Fluorine-18 Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography, Hodgkin's Lymphoma, COVID Vaccination, and Appropriate Investigation Time

We would like to correspond on “Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (F-FDG PET)/computed tomography in Hodgkin's lymphoma: Diagnostic challenge during COVID vaccination.”[1]Usmani et al. concluded that “F-FDG PET uptake in the lymph nodes is not so uncommon after immunization; relevant history is very important especially in the phase of massive immunization to avoid false interpretation.”[1]The diagnostic problem of using nuclear medicine investigation after COVID-19 vaccination is the current interesting issue. Reaction to immunogenicity process after vaccination can result in difficulty in the interpretation of result. The interesting question is how to manage the problem? Usmani et al. raised an important issue on good history-taking. If a patient is a known case of cancer, it might not difficult. However, if there is no clinical history, the problem still remains. A follow-up examination might be selected. Nevertheless, a good appropriate investigation time should be used. To avoid interference, investigation should be performed before vaccination or a certain period after vaccination. According to a recent report, a 6-week period after COVID-19 vaccination might be a good period for performing nuclear imaging investigation.[2]
