Greetings from SNMICON 2023 Jodhpur!
On behalf of the organizing committee I welcome you to Jodhpur at the 55th Annual Conference of the Society of Nuclear Medicine India. AIIMS Jodhpur was established in the year 2012 with the creation of Department of Nuclear Medicine in 2019. The department feels privileged and proud to be hosting this prestigious conference within a span of four years. This is also the first time that Jodhpur is hosting the Annual Conference of the SNMIndia. I thank the Society of Nuclear Medicine India for the level of faith bestowed on us.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Nuclear Medicine – The Key to Precision Medicine”. We are very much aware that Nuclear Medicine has impacted greatly in the diagnosis and treatment of various disease conditions and has significantly contributed in improving the healthcare through Positron emission tomography (PET), and targeted radionuclide therapy as its effective tools. We hope that the 2023 conference will be a showcase of relevant research addressing the patient management in oncological as well as non-oncological areas.
The meeting will witness lectures and pertinent research presentations by our Nuclear Medicine colleagues from India as well as abroad. Opportunity have been provided to many young colleagues to present themselves in an effective way. Topics covered will range from basics, preclinical to clinical along with session on correlative imaging. Finally our students are going to be the main beneficiary in terms of knowledge gain and showcasing their research works through oral & poster presentations. There would be about 170 abstracts with oral and poster presentations in clinical as well as basic sciences in Nuclear Medicine. I am thankful to each one of you for your valuable contributions.

It is a great privilege and honor for me to write a message for the Indian Journal of Nuclear Medicine dedicated to the scientific content of the 55th Annual Conference of Society of Nuclear Medicine India being held at Jodhpur from 16 to 19 November 2023. The scientific fiesta is a culmination of untiring efforts of Dr Rajesh Kumar and the team of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur who have left no stone unturned to make this event a grand success. This conference has been aptly themed “Nuclear Medicine – The Key to Precision Medicine”. Nuclear medicine is fundamental to the practice of precision medicine and has been the true harbinger of “Theranostics” even before the term was actually coined. From humble beginnings with Radioiodine imaging and therapy for thyroid cancer to the latest PSMA and FAPI based theranostics, Nuclear Medicine has come a long way and has been providing important tools for individualizing treatments for patients by imaging the molecular milieu of their disease, looking at tumour heterogeneity and been able to target them with appropriate therapeutic agents. As predicted in a recent issue of “Fortune Business Insights”, the global nuclear medicine market is expected to double within the next few years, growing from more than $5.5 billion in 2021, to $11 billion by 2026. A significant contribution to this success story may be attributed to Theranostics in current Nuclear Medicine practice, which has mirrored the Paul Ehrlich's vision of „the magic bullet', providing new hope of survival to millions of patients worldwide.
The academic programme at SNMICON 2023 has been designed to highlight the contributions made by Nuclear Medicine in the field of Precision Medicine and to explore ways of moving forward.
India's contribution to the growth of Nuclear Medicine and Theranostics has gained worldwide recognition with multiple studies by Indian professionals being highlighted at the World's leading conferences like SNMMI and EANM annual meetings. The untiring efforts of Indian Nuclear Medicine fraternity and the Society of Nuclear Medicine, India led to India being showcased as the highlight country at the recently held SNMMI annual meeting, at Chicago, USA from June 24 to 27, 2023. In addition to the high quality abstracts and research papers presented by our fraternity, four specially designed and dedicated CE sessions presented by Indian faculty, managed to pack a punch and was very well received by fellow colleagues from around the world.
A highlight of SNMICON 2023, is the newly introduced Dr. Arun Malhotra award for best research paper in Nuclear Cardiology to not only further the legacy of the great Nuclear Medicine physician who has immensely contributed to this field, but also to promote research in application of Nuclear Medicine in Cardiovascular sciences.
I wish the SNMICON 2023 being held at the blue city of Jodhpur known for its cultural and architectural prowess, a resounding success and hope the ideas generated at this annual scientific fiesta will ignite the minds of our younger and older colleagues alike and would contribute to illuminate the lives of millions of our patients.
Last but not the least, I appreciate the gargantuan efforts made by Prof Rakesh Kumar and the entire editorial team of IJNM in continuously improving the quality and impact of the journal and being able to highlight the cutting edge research not only from India, but also from various parts of the world. The quality of abstracts and presentations in this conference stands testimony to my statement. I compliment all the authors, esteemed national and international faculty and the delegates for their valuable contribution to this conference and for showcasing their academic prowess at the SNMICON 2023 and wish an enriching academic and social experience to all faculty and delegates attending the conference.

In the era of technology and information explosion, our patients informed, and demanding. Nuclear Medicine, as a highly evolved medical speciality, is no exception to their admissible. Therefore, we need to be more uniform, refined and purposeful in our clinical Nuclear Medcine practice. We need to bring up to code, our knowledge, skills, and expertise in all field of medicine as well as technology. In addition, we need to reach out to our professional peers as well as the community we serve.

It is my privilege and sincere honor to have this opportunity to welcome everyone to the 55th Annual conference of Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNMICON-2023). I, as the secretary of society of nuclear medicine India, extend warmest greetings to esteemed speakers, delegates & participants of SNMICON 2023. I would like to take this opportunity to express my highest appreciation to each of the Organizing committee members of SNMICON 2023 at AIIMS Jodhpur for all the efforts.
I take this opportunity to apprise our members about the activities of the current executive body during this year. It was a moment of pride for whole the Indian nuclear medicine fraternity being honored with “The highlight country” of the year 2023 at SNMMI conference in Chicago. Itis a testimony of the consistent hard work, passion, and cutting-edge research done by the Indian Nuclear Medicine colleagues. An Indian delegation of around 100 people were privy to witnessing the success of this event at Chicago. SNM India co-hosted 4 CE sessions namely : Translational Imaging and AI, Infection and Inflammation Imaging, Radiotheranostics-Radiopharmaceutical Therapy &Oncologic Imaging. We held the tricolour flying high at this biggest international platform of nuclear medicine.
SNM India in association with IASNM for the first time gave Alavi-Takkalkar-Kumar award for the 3 best (1st/2nd/3rd) papers in Molecular Imaging & Oncology at SNMICON held at AIIMS, Delhi last year in 2022.This award has been abig boost to young nuclear medicine colleague to send their research at our national meetings and this year alone nearly 50 abstracts have been received for award under the Alavi- Takkalkar-Kumar award category.
I am happy to announce the addition of another research award this year, Prof. Arun Malhotra in the category of Nuclear Cardiology. Two best paper awards will be given this year at Jodhpur. Society of Nuclear Medicine India would like to pay gratitude to the whole family ofLate Prof. Malhotra for starting this award in his memory.
The regional chapters are active in propagating knowledge by hosting CMEs/ conferences in different parts of India. At the end as we end thetenure of the current executive committee,I would like to thank all the members of society for having faith in us &I am indebted to the entire Executive committee of SNM India for their efforts&unconditional support over the last two years.
I hope your stay at Jodhpur, Rajasthan – “The land of kings” will be most pleasant and rewarding.
